Greetings, and welcome to a brand-new blog. This blog was long overdue, and I wanted to share my experience at English Works’ two-week Techcamp! arranged by National University of Modern Languages. It was a fantastic learning opportunity that was different from our usual classes. We had the opportunity to hear from a variety of speakers on a variety of topics. Here’s a list of the five things I enjoyed the most.

  1. Entrepreneurship Process

The Entrepreneurship seminars kicked off the Techcamp, and they were fantastic. We had our first meeting with Mr. Zahir Kazmi, who discussed a variety of topics, but the one that I found most interesting was his perspective on being an entrepreneur. He characterized entrepreneurship as the “recipe for economic development” and instilled in us the belief that it is our social responsibility to contribute to the advancement of our country. Entrepreneurs not only create jobs for themselves, but also for others. All we have to do now is seize the chance to fill a need in the market for a new product, service, or business.

Three steps make up the entrepreneurship process. The first step is to make the decision to become an entrepreneur. Step two is to observe trends, identify gaps, and solve problems in order to build profitable company concepts. Last but not least, making a clear transition from concept to action. It was one of the most beneficial sessions I’ve ever had, and it truly helped me believe in myself and my ambitions.

2. How to design an E-portfolio

The next session was with Iowa University’s Dr. John. He took us step by step through the process of creating an e-portfolio. To be honest, I had no clue why creating an e-portfolio was so necessary. I had never attempted it before, but after listening to him, I was able to see what had previously been veiled to me. E-portfolios are a more convenient approach to display your work and accomplishments. There are many websites where you may create your own e-portfolio, such as Google Sites, WordPress, and Wix, and others. My English Works! portfolio was created using Google Sites, and it was surprisingly simple to complete.

When creating a professional e-portfolio, it’s vital to think about a few factors. It would be inappropriate, for example, to provide more personal information such as family, friends, interests, and so on. Avoid cluttered screens of any kind costs; keeping information density low on each screen is a far better option. Red and blue coloring have a lot of influence. Also, make sure that the fonts are large enough to read.

3. Web Tools

Mr. Rashid Saleem and Mr. Rustam Ali led another fantastic session. They each introduced us to different learning websites. Some of them were new to me, while others were not. VOA, Blogger, Google Podcast, Audacity, English Corpora, Kindle, and Calibre were among the topics discussed by Mr. Saleem. Mr. Ali covered all of the essential websites for English speaking, writing, listening, reading, phonology, and syllables, as well as several research and e-book websites. It was quite educational.

4. Personal Qualities for Interpersonal Effectiveness

Mr. Asif Rasool has been an excellent corporate grooming trainer. He and his stories taught me so much. He discussed the job-employee communication process. Most importantly, he managed to persuade us that warmth is an important aspect of interpersonal communication. Warmth, genuineness, empathy, and unconditional positive regard are all qualities that are required for successful networking. When it comes to relationships, ego and bitterness have no place.

5. Tips for Freelancing

Last but not least, I learned a lot about freelancing from Mr. Hisham Sarwar, the specialist. He is the founder and CEO of Infomist and has his own YouTube channel where he instructs students on topics such as freelancing, digital marketing, and other skills. He introduced us to plenty of freelance websites, including Upwork, Guru, Freelancer, and Fiverr, and others. He also demonstrated how to bid on a project on these websites, prepare a proposal, and most importantly, how crucial it is to learn and master the skill before embarking on a freelancing career. This session, like the others, was quite instructive.

Each session left an imprint, making those two weeks in December the most profitable of the year. I’m grateful to have been a part of the English Works! program and to have learned so much from the Techcamp.
